Why "Sabai"? The Heart of Our Name

The word "sabai" (สบาย) holds deep meaning in Thai culture. It translates to comfortable, relaxed, and at ease. Beyond its literal definition, sabai represents physical wellness, tranquility, happiness, and contentment.

Thai people greet each other with "Sabai dee mai?" — meaning "Are you well?" The ideal response, "Sabai dee," signals that all is good. When Thais say "sabai sabai," they express a state of complete relaxation and peace.

This philosophy shapes everything we do. From the moment you arrive, our goal is to make you feel sabai. No rushing. No stress. Just a comfortable, joyful experience as you step into traditional Thai attire and discover a piece of Lanna culture.

We chose this name because it reflects the experience we want every guest to have — one of warmth, comfort, and genuine happiness.

Our Story

Sabai Thai Dressing was born from a love for Chiang Mai and its rich cultural heritage.

Chiang Mai, founded in 1296 by King Mangrai, served as the capital of the Lanna Kingdom — a name meaning "Land of a Million Rice Fields." For centuries, this region developed its own distinct traditions, arts, and dress styles that set it apart from central Thailand.

We saw an opportunity to share this heritage with travelers. Many visitors come to Chiang Mai for its temples, food, and natural beauty. We wanted to offer something more — a chance to wear the traditional garments of this region and feel connected to its history.

Our collection features authentic Thai traditional dress, including styles rooted in Lanna tradition. Women's ensembles include the pha sin (tube skirt), sabai cloth (shoulder drape), and suea pat (traditional blouse). Men's attire includes formal Thai garments suited for temple visits and cultural celebrations.
